New Zealand Manuka Health Manuka Honey MGO
Manuka honey is a monofloral honey produced in Australia and New Zealand from the nectar of the manuka tree. The honey is commonly sold as an alternative medicine. While a component found in manuka honey has antibacterial properties in vitro, there is no conclusive evidence of medicinal or dietary value other than as a sweetener.
Manuka Health MGO™ Manuka Honey has been tested and is certified to contain at least 30~550mg/kg of dietary methylglyoxal. It depends on MGO - a natural compound found in significant quantities in some Manuka Honey produced from the wild, uncultivated manuka plant in New Zealand.
Derived from the nectar of the flowers of the New Zealand native Leptospermum scoparium plant, MGO™ Manuka Honey is said to have unique properties due to exceptionally high levels of the naturally occurring compound, methylglyoxal.
